DIY Distressed Wall Art
I've seen a ton of these rustic wooden plank signs on Etsy, mostly for weddings, but I wanted to create one for our home.
So here's what I did - got a some wooden planks (you can get them at home depot or you can buy them off amazon) - get the size you like and nail them together.I wanted this for my living room wall which is painted neutral green, so I needed my wood planks to be a dark walnut shade.
Here's what you'll need :
1. Wood planks - I bought mine from Amazon
2. Wood stains - Dark Walnut and Weathered Grey (if you want a distressed look)
3. 220 grit Sand Paper
4. Brushes or lint-free rag
5. Acrylic paint and brushes
6. Polyurathane
Here's what I got out of the box:

Nail the pieces together

Staple a 9-10mm jute rope to the back.

Since my walls are a neutral green, I chose to get a pot of the Dark Walnut wood stain by Varathane and a Weathered Grey wood stain to add a distressed look.

To get started, begin by sanding the surface with a 220 grit sand paper Then begin your staining by dipping the clean lint-free rag in the wood stain and lightly dab it along the wood plank.

Alternate between the different shades.

Allow the coat to dry before applying the next coat.

Wipe the excess paint off, play around with different layers till you get the look you desire

Here's a before/after:

Let it dry overnight and gather your ammo for the next phase.

Paint your acrylics away!
One piece done!

My husband worked on the second board with me! :)

Our wedding tagline/theme was "Two less Fish in the Sea"!
That turned into this:

And we're done :)
