Hotel Review: Mahayana Homes in Tulum Mexico
"Welcome to the jungle"... an incredibly fashionable Oscar said this to me on the day I landed in Tulum - an incredibly good looking man at an incredibly chic boutique in the heart of incredible Tulum. And that in a nutshell is Tulum. Home to the most artistic, eco-chic and off-the-beaten-path aesthetics, Tulum is for those with a wanderlust soul.
I was excited to pack my bags for a much needed beach vacation after a busy few weeks at work and get on that plane to Mexico. Little did I know how unique the gorgeous coastal town of Tulum is. Did you know everything in Tulum is locally sourced and/or created?
Tulum is made for the eco-conscious traveler, whether it’s vegan farm to table restaurants or hand woven designs at local boutiques.. even electricity is a remote concept and romantic candles light the night!
Why Mahayana Tulum Homes:
When I decided to visit Tulum, I was looking for something that is NOT Cancun or Cabo or one of the other very popular tourist stricken spots of Mexico. I was looking to get away from the ordinary. I am bold, I am not afraid to walk the path less traveled and I am home when things are wild.Tulum is a jungle juxtaposed by the ocean. Everything about Tulum echoes the lush wilderness along with the turquoise ocean. When I decided to stay in Casa Mandala, I was looking for home away from home. A life away from the crowds. A night to wake up and not hear a single sound except the sound of crashing waves. And Casa Mandala was an absolute dream. Waking up here was like waking up in a castle...!
Sitting at the edge of the tropical jungle, immersed in lush greenery and designed to capture the sea and pristine beauty of the turquoise Caribbean... Mahayana Tulum captures eco-chic Tulum like a dream.
I was excited to take over their 3 story Spanish villa with a private pool - Casa Mandala for a few days. Casa Mandala is part of a small collection of beach front homes on a private beach, in the heart of Tulum's most captivating part of the strip. The beach property houses 5 homes, each unique in its interiors, but all of them share the same stunning Spanish luxurious aesthetics.
The Mahayana Tulum homes are located on their own private beach called the Tortuga beach, with each residence having its own cabana on the beach. Whether you are a family or friends traveling in a group or a couple looking for a quiet oasis in the heart of the beach area, away from the crowds and the hustle of the hotels, Tulum beach homes is the perfect palce for you. In particular, if you are a couple, Casa Gaia is the ultimate romantic destination because it is so close to the beach, yet so private. It gives the feeling like you have the whole beach to yourself!

The Casa Mandala is a 3-story home with a tree-house like structure. The pool is magnificent and it opens up into the vast living and dining space of the Casa on the ground floor. The floors are a sight to capture with gorgeous painted tiles that reflect the carefuly curated aesthetics of the Tulum Homes.
My fav part though, is the Master bedroom on the top floor. Its any girl's dream. Waking up here makes you feels like a Princess. Extremely comfortable and yet so private, this place is perfect for couples on the top floor.
The floor in the middle is also gorgeous with painted tiles and white washed walls. The middle floor is massive with huge beds that can accommodate atleast 6-8 people comfortably.

The pool and the pool side patio is of course where we spent most of our time. With the gorgeous palm trees surrounding the pool and the property, and only a few steps from the beach, this part of the property is where friends and family would love to come together, share drinks and food and create memories for a lifetime.
Service:
The sweet and very helpful housekeeper Chabely welcomed us on the property and was incredibly accommodating of our needs. She gave us tips on what to do and things to eat and places to visit and ensured our beds were made and the towels were clean. She was very responsive at all times and the best part - she always wore a big smile on her face :) You can also request for a chef on the property if you are a big group and would like authentic home cooked meals! Just let Chabely know!
Location:
The property is located centrally, in the heart of the most vibrant part of Tulum. Adjacent to LaZebra and only minutes for all the amazing restaurants and boutique stores, and yet preserving its privacy and calm, the homes have a fantastic location. You can walk to all your favorite places Gitano, Hartwood, The Real Coconut, Caravan, Josa, Raw Love etc un under 5 mins!
Getting to Mahayana Tulum Homes:
Tulum is about 2 hrs from the Cancun airport. There's two ways to get there - either you can catch a pre-paid taxi from the airport that cost about $90 to Tulum beach, or you could take the ADO bus which is an incredibly comfortable 2.5 hr journey that takes you to the Playa and then to Tulum for about $16.Either option is quite comfortable. Just keep in mind Uber's dont show up at the airport so these are your only options... unless you arrange for a shuttle service with your hotel which costs about the same as a taxi.
