DIY Bar Cart
Happy Friday ya'all!
I've been dreaming about beautiful bar carts all summer long, but most beautiful bar carts are $300+ ... and some of them truly look worth the money! :)But..why spend all that much when you can DIY it for 1/4th the cost!
Some bar carts I was eyeing were
West Elm's Midcentury bar cart (to die for!) at $399
Target's Threshold bar cart at $139
World Market Aiden Bar Cart for a more industrial look at $199
I even ordered the Threshold bar cart from Target, but (luckily :) ) Target screwed up my order and frustrated me with a lot of miscommunication.. so I decided to DIY the whole thing to my satisfaction :)
All you'll need:
1. Inexpensive serving cart
2. Primer
3. Ralph Lauren Buttermilk Gold Paint
4. Poly
5. Paint Brushes
6. Tarp Of the above, I have 2-6 lying around in my garage coz I keep painting things around my house but they cost very little and last multiple projects.
The only thing I had to do was hunt for a serving cart of the height and size that fit my needs. So I scoured Amazon and overstock for metal carts and ordered a metal cart from Amazon for $60.
It came in a box with all the pieces apart. It took me about a couple hours to put them all together... not because it was that hard, I'm just terrible at "putting stuff together" :) The instructions were in illustrations, so I made a few mistakes but it ended up looking like a steel cart as below.
I was hosting a party the next day and totally wanted to show my cart off ! So I decided to spend the rest of my friday night between 10p - 1am doing up my bar cart :)After putting it together, I took the cart out to my backyard, laid it on top of the tarp and primed it.
Its super convenient to use spray primer or paint coz you get amazing coverage with it.
Let it dry .Next I got my brushes and gold paint out! I wanted a muted gold look and Ralph Lauren's buttermilk gold paint is perfect for a subtle regal look.
It was freaking freezing cold but I powered through with my bathrobe :D
My puppy Anya always sat with me through all of my projects. She stayed out in the yard till 1am with me giving me company. This was the last project she did with me... before she left us :(Today marks 1 week since my baby passed away. I miss her kind soul and her sweet presence by my side everyday. Last picture of her as my "partner-in-DIY-crime"
By the end of the night, my cart was primed, painted with 3 coats of gold and ready to be styled!
Spent the next morning making my bar cart beautiful :) Add some plants or flowers to add color and texture.Moscow mule glasses in copper from Homegoods are so in right now - they're a bar-cart-essential :)
The gold deer is from Target.
